In these days of super efficiency, support workers who can mend networks and PC's, and offer regular help to users, are indispensable in every part of the workplace. Our desire for such skilled and qualified individuals is constantly growing, as everything becomes vastly more dependent upon technology.

Looking at the myriad of choice out there, is it any wonder that a large percentage of career changers don't really understand the best career path they will enjoy. What is our likelihood of grasping what is involved in a particular job when it's an alien environment to us? We normally haven't met someone who works in that sector anyway. Getting to an informed decision only comes via a methodical investigation of many different key points:

* Your individual personality as well as your interests - which work-centred jobs you like and dislike.

Make sure you don't get caught-up, as can often be the case, on the certification itself. Training for training's sake is generally pointless; you should be geared towards the actual job at the end of it. You need to remain focused on where you want to go. Imagine training for just one year and then end up performing the job-role for decades. Don't make the error of opting for what may seem to be a program of interest to you only to waste your life away with an unrewarding career!

Set targets for what you want to earn and whether you're an ambitious person or not. Sometimes, this affects which precise certifications you'll need to attain and what you can expect to give industry in return. Take advice from a skilled professional, even if you have to pay - it's much safer and cheaper to discover early on whether your choices are appropriate, rather than realise after 2 years that the job you've chosen is not for you and have to return to the start of another program.
